About this ebook
Seth Giolle
Writing for the Author

Letter from the Author
An author looks to writing as a way of life. Their creative passion is a part of who and what they are, but writing is more than just a love of the written word. There’s true art to a well-crafted book, and for every art, there is practice. For every art, there is work to be done before an author can reach their true potential.
I won’t pretend to be perfect. Indeed, I’m on my own trek still learning and honing my own skills, and it’s been a long road for me. I figure it’s a lifetime journey.
And I’m the last person to buy books on How to Write Better, or whatever those other authors title their novels. I have no doubt those novels are very helpful. I’m just more apt to learn things the hard way by doing and failing more than not. It’s not a good habit, but when you learn things the hard way, you tend to remember them, so there is some benefit to every method.
For those who like reading books geared around helping them develop their writing skills, I’ve compiled in this work some tips and tricks that I think will help a budding and beginning author.
These are little tidbits that I’ve found have actually helped me only the years of writing and learning. There’ve been many tips I’ve come across that didn’t help me at all. I left those out.
As for the body of this book, I was going to add more formal organization, but people who buy these books usually just check the table of contents for some special interest anyway. They pretty much just focus on the single item they’re interested in and ignore the rest. How much formal organization does tailoring to that tunnel-visioned philosophy require?
I also had a hard time deciding what topics were more important than others. They’re all important in their own right and shouldn’t be ignored. Leaving them more randomly laid out offers them equal space. This way, the reader can decide what path they’d like to tread through the offered content.
Of course, the body is organized to some extent.
The first part of this book is dedicated to definitions. There are terms and concepts used in the rest of the book that I can’t assume you the reader will understand. In any case, I can’t assume you understand what I mean when I use said word, so I created the opening section for definitions. Some of these terms are included simply because I feel they’re important concepts every reader should understand whether the terms are used later in this book or not.
The second part of this book revolves around the application of writing skills. Those topics are a bit more random. Even then, there is some method to the madness. Breaking Blocks comes before Process on purpose. Offering a Good Critique and Taking a Critique are one after the other for a good reason too. They’re each related.
I hope this helps.
To the Writing.
