Yves Patrick Beaulieu ist französisch-Kanadienser, der in Quebec lebt, genauer im nordöstlichen Abitibi-Témiscamingue, eine Region im Herzen des kanadischen Nordwaldes gelegen.  Er präsentierte seinen ersten Roman 1991, "Als der neunte Mond vorbeizog", für den er eine regionale Auszeichnung erhielt. Der Autor kam zehn Jahre später mit seinem zweiten Roman, "Die Einsiedelei", zurück, der ebenfalls Anerkennung in seiner Adoptivheimat erfuhr. Sechs Novellen folgen. Dann widmet er sich dem Schreiben seines nächsten Romanes, "Dada der Verrückte", welcher den Zyklus der abitibischen Trilogie schließen wird.

    The teenager stood on the jumble of crumbling rocks that were strung along the beach at the foot of a reddish cliff.

    From below, you could see a fringe of long grass framing the edge of the cliff. The boy knew that a few metres beyond that green line, a railway ran towards the town of Carleton. 

    The sand surrounding the dense grey mass of the rocks had a yellower tinge than usual, lit by the warm rays of an August sun. Its blue ornamented only by the white dots of a few seabirds, the sea faced the boy calmly, waiting to be admired. The gulls felt obliged to glide over its salty vastness, wary of the boy’s presence, waiting for him to leave before they could warm themselves on the rocks.

    Some of the birds preferred to watch the intruder while swimming close to the shore, confident that he would soon withdraw, tiring of the loneliness. But Robin Leblanc liked the heap of stones.
