About this ebook
Sports Shorts II, a collection of short stories, is J. H. Hollands fourth publication. As was the case with his previous collections, Holland told these stories to his children when they were growing up. He has dusted off the pages of some very old stories to include them in this book. The stories are inspirational and contain wonderful messages of encouragement. It is the authors hope that families will enjoy these stories together. True amazement is found in the second or third reading, when readers grasp that there is actually more there than originally thought. Which of the characters do you relate to?

The%20Balland%20Family.jpegTHE BALLAND FAMILY
This story happened to an ordinary family in an ordinary community not so very long ago. The family’s name was Balland, which was perfectly appropriate because of their great love of sports. Their house could be called Ball Land
due to the wide variety of balls that could be found in every corner of their home. Even some of their furniture was sports oriented, like their original bleachers from the Los Angeles Wrigley Field. Some of their furniture was made out of balls, like Momma Balland’s tennis ball chair. To say that the Ballands were extremely preoccupied with sports would be a huge understatement. In the community, members of the Balland family were easily recognized, since they took their favorite sporting balls everywhere they went.
Big Daddy Balland always loved football. He’d played quarterback on football teams since he was in elementary school, and in championships at each level growing up. When he was not at work, he could be found wearing his football jersey and a pair of football shoes. Of course, he always carried a football with him. Sometimes he played catch with people he met in his daily travels, or he would do finger drills with the football while he drove or walked around.
Momma Balland loved tennis. She was always wearing a tennis shirt and tennis shoes when she kicked around in casual clothes. She always carried her tennis balls with her. She used them for everything, from hand strengthening exercises to handy repair on baby strollers.
The oldest Balland son, JT, was seventeen. Having always loved the game of baseball with intense passion, he understood everything in his life through baseball metaphors. He always wore his baseball shirt and some type of
