Adam Hamilton, author of 24 Hours That Changed the World
IMMERSION BIBLE STUDIES is a godsend for participants who desire sound Bible study yet feel they do not have large amounts of time for study and preparation. IMMERSION is concise. It is brief but covers the material well and leads participants to apply the Bible to life. IMMERSION is a wonderful resource for today’s church.
Larry R. Baird, senior pastor of Trinity Grand Island United Methodist Church
If you’re looking for a deeper knowledge and understanding of God’s Word, you must dive into IMMERSION BIBLE STUDIES. Whether in a group setting or as an individual, you will experience God and his unconditional love for each of us in a whole new way.
Pete Wilson, founding and senior pastor of Cross Point Church
This beautiful series helps readers become fluent in the words and thoughts of God, for purposes of illumination, strength building, and developing a closer walk with the One who loves us so.
Laurie Beth Jones, author of Jesus, CEO and The Path
The IMMERSION BIBLE STUDIES series is no less than a game changer. It ignites the purpose and power of Scripture by showing us how to do more than just know God or love God; it gives us the tools to love like God as well.

IMMERSION BIBLE STUDIES
A fresh new look at the Bible, from beginning to end,
and what it means in your life.
Welcome to IMMERSION!
We’ve asked some of the leading Bible scholars, teachers, and pastors to help us with a new kind of Bible study. IMMERSION remains true to Scripture but always asks, Where are you in your life? What do you struggle with? What makes you rejoice?
Then it helps you read the Scriptures to discover their deep, abiding truths. IMMERSION is about God and God’s Word, and it is also about you—not just your thoughts, but your feelings and your faith.
In each study you will prayerfully read the Scripture and reflect on it. Then you will engage it in three ways:
Claim Your Story
Through stories and questions, think about your life, with its struggles and joys.
Enter the Bible Story
Explore Scripture and consider what God is saying to you.
Live the Story
Reflect on what you have discovered, and put it into practice in your life.
IMMERSION makes use of an exciting new translation of Scripture, the Common English Bible (CEB). The CEB and IMMERSION BIBLE STUDIES will offer adults:
• the emotional expectation to find the love of God
• the rational expectation to find the knowledge of God
• reliable, genuine, and credible power to transform lives
• clarity of language
Whether you are using the Common English Bible or another translation, IMMERSION BIBLE STUDIES will offer a refreshing plunge into God’s Word, your life, and your life with God.

Not long after my wife became pregnant with our first child, she awoke one morning with severe pain in her abdomen. I rushed her to the hospital where she was seen first by an emergency room doctor and then by a surgeon. The surgeon concluded Jeanine’s pain was likely from an ectopic pregnancy, an embryo that had established itself in a fallopian tube instead of the uterus. Surgery was necessary, he said, and assuming it was an ectopic pregnancy, he would have to remove the fallopian tube, which would also end the pregnancy. We should be prepared for that likelihood, he said.
Jeanine underwent the procedure, and as it turned out, the embryo was in the right place, but one of the fallopian tubes was strangulated. The surgeon untangled it and closed the incision. When this doctor talked to us later, he explained that because of Jeanine’s innards being disturbed, it was now likely that the pregnancy would spontaneously abort. The physician then left the room.
While Jeanine and I began to absorb this unwelcome prediction, our family doctor walked in. He agreed that the surgery had been necessary, but when we told him what the surgeon had said about the likely loss of the pregnancy, he said, I think the odds are better than that. There’s a lot of resilience there.
We clung to those words, not only because they were what we wanted to hear, but also because we knew something about our doctor’s faith. He had a sign in his waiting room that read, We dress the wound, but God heals.
When I once commented to him about that, he responded with a specific mention of his commitment to Christ.
As it turned out, the pregnancy continued, and at full term, the family doctor delivered our healthy baby son.
Naturally, Jeanine and I had prayed before she went to surgery. While our own physician—a practicing Christian—brought hope into the hospital room that day, the surgeon—an abrupt man who gave no hint of his religious persuasion—was the direct provider of Jeanine’s medical salvation and the one who cleared the way for the pregnancy to continue. As far as we were concerned, God worked through both of these men.
In the more than thirty-five years since, Jeanine and I and the three children who eventually rounded out our family have all had occasional medical issues, a few of them quite serious, and we have had the services of a variety of physicians. Only now and then were we aware of being treated by someone who was a committed Christian. Sometimes we recognized
