In sixth grade he wrote an article about playing music. In junior high he wrote science fiction stories. His English teacher would read them to the class and ask if she could keep them. In high school he dabbled in poetry and played in a popular local rock band. Things changed when his parents unexpectedly announced they were selling the ranch.
With a yearning to see other places, Mike hitchhiked from California to New Jersey and back. He enrolled at the University of Oregon in Eugene and volunteered at Whitebird Free Clinic where he saved the life of a Hell's Angel who had overdosed on "downers." He reached out to communes in the Willamette Valley as they worked on the land.
He fished salmon off Coos Bay, worked in a sawmill, been a ship clerk at the Port of Sacramento and a real estate broker in Oklahoma. He has known travelers, fisherman, college professors, hippies, priests, holy men and rode with truckers. He writes because he loves telling stories about the places and people he's known; you might see them in his fictions. Mike visited the Vatican and Florence, Italy, where the little church of Saint Ambrogio stands.
Stay tuned for his latest novel with Christian Faith Publishing, "The Disgrace of Sant' Ambrogio."view less
