About this audiobook

Writers once dreamed of writing novels. Now screenplays top the dream list. Hear two top teachers explain the sometimes ungentle art of writing salable movie and television scripts. This collection contains live recordings of two 90-minute workshops on screenwriting: 1) "Screenwriting: How To Move Your Tale" by Richard Walter, and 2) "Screenwriting Tricks of the Trade: The Workshop" by William Froug.

What our readers think

Readers find this title to be a mixed bag. Some reviewers criticize the outdated and formulaic approach to screenwriting, as well as the smug and tangential delivery of the author. However, others appreciate the inclusion of William Froug's voice and find value in the word-by-word instruction for creating great screenplays. Overall, the book offers insights into the craft of screenwriting, but it may not be for everyone.

Outdated garbage and a waste of credit. Hollywood thankfully no longer follows screenplay formulas like this. It patronizes the audience and assumes that they ALL want to watch one brand of film. The structure of the scripts for some of the most successful films these days are in fact the opposite of what Walter puts forth here (just look at the past few Oscar winners for best original screenplay and best picture). Also, I don't see how anyone could enjoy listening to this guy talk. He's incredibly smug and goes off on too many tangents.

It was great to hear the voice of William Froug, author of Screenwriting Tricks of the Trade, The Screenwriter Looks at the Screenwriter, and Zen and the Art of Screenwriting 1 & 2, paired with Richard Walter — who wrote the first screenplay book that I ever read, Screenwriting: The Art, Craft, and Business of Film and Television Writing. I would listen to the recording again.

Terrible talk. Kept on going around in circles but didn’t get to say anything useful.
