About this audiobook
Fourteen true, amazing and inspiring stories of some of the bravest men and women you'll ever meet
So Others May Live is the untold story of the U.S. Coast Guard's quiet but resolute rescue swimmers. From deep ocean caves on the Oregon coast to the panicked and chaotic streets of post-Katrina New Orleans, here are their stunningly heroic stories - some of the greatest maritime rescues attempted since the program was started in 1985. These feats, told through the eyes of the heroes, reveal an understanding of how and why the rescuer, with flight crew assistance, risks his or her own life to reach out to save a stranger. Covering diverse environments- oceans, hurricanes, oil rigs, caves, sinking vessels, floods, and even Niagara Falls - this is truly a can't-put-it-down collection.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to have great potential as an audiobook with excellent stories, but the narration by the author detracts from the overall experience. The book is filled with heroic and tragic stories that captivate the audience. Despite the author's ego coming in the way, the content is informative and engaging, leaving a lasting impact on the listeners. The professional narration of the stories is incredible, making it a recommended listen for those interested in leadership and history.

This could be such a great audiobook if it wasn't for the narration in between stories that sounds as if it was recorded in a bathroom.
The stories themselves are excellent. Not overly filled with info, but enough. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5

This probably would have been a 5-star audiobook if it hadn't been ruined by the author allowing her oversized ego to get in the way by taking it upon herself to narrate segments of her own book. I can't remember a book narration that was any worse. Felt like being back in English class in middle school listening to Mrs. Merckle... complete with the monotone voice, the occasional stutter, and the sound of pages flipping over. The actual heroic & tragic stories in the book read by an actual professional were incredible. I found it ironic that the end of the audiobook is essentially an over the top infomercial about the author's leadership skills and how to reach her if you wanted to hire her for a speaking engagement. Thought knowing one's own limitations and being able to delegate was supposed to be one of the most important leadership skills.
