Katharine Hayhoe

Katharine Hayhoe is a climate scientist and chief scientist for The Nature Conservancy. She is also the Endowed Professor in Public Policy and Public Law and Paul W. Horn Distinguished Professor at Texas Tech University. She has been named a United Nations Champion of the Earth and one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People, and serves as the climate ambassador for the World Evangelical Alliance. Katharine was a lead author for the US Second, Third, and Fourth National Climate Assessments, hosts the PBS digital series Global Weirding, and has written for The New York Times. Her TED Talk “The Most Important Thing You Can Do to Fight Climate Change: Talk About It” has been viewed over 5 million times. She has a BSc in physics and astronomy from the University of Toronto and an MS and a PhD in atmospheric science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

I like the storytelling and guide on how to talk about climate change, the impact we can have, and the case for hope. All three are essential ingredients for our collective fight.
Evidence from varying worldviews helped to show—and I’m sure—convince every single person why we should care about climate change.

Phenomenonal! Although written by a Christian climate scientist, this book should appeal to people of all faiths and backgrounds, including those who are curious but doubtful about climate change. In my opinion, she does hype up the climate solutions a little bit more than they deserve given how serious the threats are, but I appreciate her efforts at giving readers hope. and hope really is essential.

Even though it's a daunting challenge, there is so much we can do by talking about climate change with our loved ones, mobilizing to create larger societal changes, and finally making personal life changes if possible - such as flying less, eating less meat, and so on.

Life-changing. I’ve been binge-studying this topic as a middle-school ELA teacher and master’s student. During a chance conversation with my superfriend, and with restaurant diners who we happened to meet at the close-by table, one nice woman mentioned a climate group she belongs to, and she said she loved this book, Saving Us. It was already on my scribd list, so I started it and wrapped it up within record time. I’ll go back to it and my notes to help me teach and write my master’s paper. I will also return to it for myself, for tips, connections, inspiration, and reminders to keep taking the many all-important steps toward a future we can leave to our loved ones and yours.

A very timely and well written book. Hayhoe is clearly an excellent communicator about climate change and her ideas and stories show us a way forward. Talking about our shared values, bonding over them, and seeing how climate change impacts those we care about is the key to inspiring us to take action. This is a must-read for anyone who has even a little concern about what the next ten years will bring.
