Die Dichtung der Ährenlese beschreibt die Kriegszeit und die Verpflichtung gegenüber dem Vaterland aus Sicht des Erzählers. Der Mut zur Veränderung, die Siegeslust und die Furchtlosigkeit stehen im Vordergrund sowie das Zugehörigkeitsgefühl und die Pflicht, dem eigenen Land zu dienen und bis hin zum Tod dazu verpflichtet zu sein. Der Erzähler nimmt den Leser mit auf eine Reise durch die schrecklichen Zustände während des Krieges, über Leichenberge, blutige Morgenröte und dem Tod bis hin zum Sähen neuer Körner für das deutsche Vaterland.-
