En 1949 se publicó por primera vez El reino de este mundo, obra que inaugura en la literatura lo real maravilloso, término introducido por el mismo Alejo Carpentier en el prólogo de esa primera edición. Seis décadas después de esa publicación, Lectorum lo celebra presentando una nueva edición con prólogo de Guillermo Samperio, con el fin de que, en palabras del prologuista, "podamos revisitar esta valija literaria de Carpentier y descubrir las sorpresas que ahí se guardan".
