Siamo a Milano nel 1934. Alla Fiera del Libro è trovato il cadavere, composto «come un fantoccio mostruoso» di un personaggio assai curioso: si chiama Giobbe Tuama, ma è conosciuto anche con un altro nome, Jeremiah Shanahan; è un americano, ma vive in Italia da tempo; è seguace di una chiesa evangelica ma è anche un tremendo usuraio. Ma non finisce qui. Nella città vengono trovati altri due cadaveri. Il commissario Carlo De Vincenzi risolverà l’intricata vicenda, a modo suo, come sempre. 

Augusto De Angelis (Roma, 28 giugno 1888 – Bellagio, 18 luglio 1944) è stato uno scrittore e giornalista italiano, attivo soprattutto durante gli anni del fascismo.

Augusto De Angelis

Augusto De Angelis (1888-1944) was an Italian novelist and journalist, most famous for his series of detective novels featuring Commissario Carlo De Vincenzi. His cultured protagonist was enormously popular in Italy, but the Fascist government of the time considered him an enemy, and during the Second World War he was imprisoned by the authorities. Shortly after his release he was beaten up by a Fascist activist and died from his injuries.
