Die junge Nina glaubt, dass ihre Eltern sie nicht verstehen. Sie möchte heiraten und zwar ihre große Liebe Volker, doch ihre Eltern möchten, dass beide zuerst ihre Ausbildung beenden. Das werden sie jedoch erst in anderthalb Jahren, was Nina viel zu lang ist! Also entscheidet sie sich ihre Großmutter um Rat zu fragen. Diese gibt ihr ein Büchlein, welches ihr Großvater einst geschrieben hat. Sofort beginnt Nina mit der Lektüre und versinkt schon bald in der Zeit des Jahres 1923 und liest die Geschichte von Friederike und dem zehn Jahre älteren Conrad – ihre Großeltern. Und langsam aber stetig lernt sie mehr über die Vergangenheit und gleichzeitig dabei auch über sich selbst.-
