Introduction
Ayahuasca. The word sounds different now. A lot of things have changed in my life that I could not have possibly imagined. My goal with this book is to spread the knowledge of what ayahuasca truly is and how a person can benefit the most from using it. We live in a society where there is so much pressure to fit the standard. A world where there are millions of people struggling and depressed. The majority of us don’t even know what we want in life. We just do as we are told or go with the flow.
Have you ever asked yourself: What am I doing here on Earth? What is my purpose in life? What is life? Who am I? What am I? Why am I surrounded by these people? Why was I born into this family? These are all questions our society usually tends to ignore, but they are the deepest questions to ask. If you honestly ask yourself these questions, you will notice that there is no one-word or one-sentence answer. There is no surface-level explanation. These questions are too deep. If you have a surface-level answer, most likely you have made an assumption. In fact, asking these questions leads to a million other questions. You could try to find an answer for hours, days, and years and just end up with millions of unanswered questions.
Ayahuasca will show you what life really is and will put up a mirror to show you who you truly are. There is a lot of misinformation on ayahuasca, and I hope to clear that up with this book. Ayahuasca is extremely powerful. It will give you a taste of the infinite. My intent is to share my knowledge and experience with this sacred plant medicine and help you prepare yourself. Ayahuasca gets its label as a plant medicine because of the cleaning power it has on the mind, body, and soul.
This book is intended for people who are curious as to what the nature of ayahuasca actually is and how it can radically change your life. People who are looking for more details on what exactly happens during an ayahuasca experience and how you can prepare for an experience will find this book very informative and useful.
In this book I dive into what ayahuasca is from a scientific standpoint. Then I go on to explain how it affects the mind, body, and soul. I then move on to my detailed direct experience reports, which elaborate what exactly happened to me in the South American jungle, and finally I explain how my life has changed because of this experience. I have also included how you can prepare for yourself if you do decide to journey to the infinite and how your life can change in unimaginable ways.
Since my experience, my life has more meaning, and my purpose in this life is set in stone. I know what I want and where I want to go, and I have utmost faith that everything is going to fall into place gracefully. I see life through a different lens. My kaleidoscope has been cleaned. It is as if all the dust and dirt obstructing my previous view has been removed, and now more life can enter through my lens with clarity and understanding. It feels similar to taking off dirty glasses except instead of just my vision clearing up, my perception has cleared up. All these possibilities are available to you.
It was an intense, beautiful, terrifying, and difficult endeavour to say the least, but was it worth it? Hell, yeah! Ayahuasca broke me, but I realized afterward I needed breaking—more than I would have ever thought. My body functions more efficiently now, and I am able to do things effortlessly that used to require a lot of will power and motivation. This is not to say that now I have no struggles in life, but a lot of things from my past have been dealt with and no longer control my actions. I gained some more freedom to live how I truly want to live. Before ayahuasca it required a lot of effort and will power to break bad habits and develop good habits that would aid me to achieve the goals I set for myself in life. It was even hard for me to see which habits were good for me and which were not. I was confused in some areas in life but didn’t know it. This experience gave me a lot more power to take control of my life, and I cannot describe in words how thankful I am for this plant medicine and the people who facilitate the use of it. An experience like this can give you the ability to take control of your life and set you on the path to make this life a truly extraordinary adventure. This will be further explained throughout the book.
Ayahuasca can do wonders on the mind, body, and spirit. There have been cases where people with enlarged livers from drinking too much alcohol have gone to an ayahuasca retreat and come back with a liver functioning as child’s liver would. There have been people who have been cured from cancer, drug addiction, mental illness, and all sorts of health conditions. The list goes on. After reading this book, I can guarantee you will thoroughly understand what ayahuasca is and how it affects you physically, mentally, and spiritually. You will also understand what my direct experience was, how my life changed, how you can prepare for an ayahuasca experience, and, most important, you will understand yourself a little bit more.
I am no shaman, master healer, or professional ayahuasca user. I am just a kid who happened to stumble on this plant medicine. I have been doing research on entheogens for over six years, but I did not intend on writing a book before I went to the Amazon rain forest to experience ayahuasca. This came after, when I realized what this concoction actually was. There is this burning desire inside me that wants to tell my friends, family, acquaintances, and people curious about ayahuasca what exactly happened to me in Peru. Words won’t do it justice, but I will do my best to give you a solid picture of what happened. Ayahuasca has changed my life and the lives of the people who went with me in ways I still cannot fathom. I see the benefits and how drastically a life can change in a miraculous way if a person is able to open their mind to it.
Now, in this book there are some ideas that may seem a little radical to someone who does not have experience with entheogens or plant medicines. I encourage you not to take anything I say on faith except for what I have experienced. I suggest you try to experience the truth in the statements I proclaim through your own experience and your own seeking. Try to notice the hidden points behind the words and see how they apply to your own life. One more thing before you begin reading this book: if you have any preconceived notions of psychedelics, what they are, or how they affect you without any direct experience, my best advice is to start from nothing and open your mind. This goes especially for you doctors out there!
Take your time, and try to understand what I am communicating. The book does not necessarily have to be read in any particular order, but to get the most out of my communication, I recommend you read it in the given order. One thing I want to emphasize when reading is for you to see where the topics apply in your daily life.
Part 1
The Science
Ayahuasca is an entheogenic brew created by the indigenous people and shamans of the Amazon rain forest. An entheogen is basically a chemical derived from a plant that is used for exploring new states of consciousness for religious and spiritual purposes. Ayahuasca is illegal in many parts of the world, but it is legal in South America, where it originated, because of the traditional, spiritual, and healing effects it has proven to produce over the years. It is known in the Western world as a hallucinogenic or psychedelic substance. The word psychedelic means mind-manifesting.
Mind manifesting refers to the fact that it is not the plant creating the psychedelic experience, it is all you. The plant just shows you the way or directs you to a certain state of consciousness that
