She has provided counseling for individuals, couples, families, and groups through private practice and in agency and university settings. Jan is currently vice president for clinical services for Employee Assistance Programs International.
Gary J. Stricklin, Ph.D., holds a doctorate in marriage and family therapy from Kansas State University. In his 24 years in the mental health profession, he has worked in a variety of settings including private practice, mental health centers, and school systems. He was one of the founders and also the director of Hospice of Decatur County in Oberlin, Kansas. Currently, he provides consultation to national corporate clients concerning mental health and workplace issues .
Jan and Gary, who live in Fort Collins, Colorado, are married to each other and between them have four adult sons. Their own journeys with cancer began in 1993. Jan''s first husband died shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. Gary was diagnosed with cancer in 1993 and again in 1997 after he and Jan were married. Along with their professional training and experience, the roles they have played as cancer patient and spouse have added depth and understanding to their counseling of other couples dealing with cancer.view less
