Their work was first published in the late 20th century, in the USSR during the early days of perestroika when ideological censorship was relaxed. In 1990, the authors emigrated to Israel. Their prose stands out for its acerbity, paradoxality, psychological insight, unusual subject matter, and for the psychological experiments they try out on their characters. They are not afraid to write about what they think, nor are they afraid to think about things that are unacceptable or frightening to think about. “We are not interested in norms or disorders. We are interested in the person in a borderline situation,” say the authors. “People and societies in extreme situations—these are our favorite themes to discuss with our readers.”view less
