He completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown. Ngarto graduated from Indonesian Literature Department, Faculty of Letters, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta in 1995. He is actively writing short stories between 1986 to 1997. Some of his short stories have been published by Yogyakarta local media and national media, including several teen magazines. A number of his short stories published in an anthology of short stories. Lorong Tanpa Cahaya (Aisle Without Light) is his first novel, was first published in 1999.His second novel, Menolak Panggilan Pulang (Reject Call Home), published in July 2000. The third novel, Tapol (Prisoner), printed and published in 2002, and Harga Seorang Wanita (A Price A Woman) published in 2006.
This former student activists embarked on a career in the media industry as a copy editor of D & R Magazine (April 1997 - February 2000), copy editor of the tabloid Semanggi (2000), copy editor the tabloid DeTAK (2000-2001). Since 2001 to now he is a journalist at Tempo Inti Media, Jakarta, with a variety of roles such as author, head of research, editor of Koran Tempo, staff research experts, and Publishing Coordinator at the Center for Data and Analysis TEMPO.view less
