Dr. Johannes Bold tritt eine neue Stelle als Röntgenarzt in einem idyllisch gelegenen Waldsanatorium an. Die anfängliche Ruhe und Beschaulichkeit weicht bald dramatischen Ereignissen: Oberschwester Anna wird tot aufgefunden – erschlagen von einem Stein. Ein Unfall scheint möglich, aber es findet sich auch durchaus ein Mordmotiv: Oberschwester Anna hatte Tags zuvor das Fehlen von Morphium im Giftschrank bemerkt und angekündigt, den Dieb ausfindig zu machen. Es bleibt nicht bei einem Toten, denn kurze Zeit später stirbt ein Patient, und wieder hatte sich jemand am Giftschrank vergriffen. Schwester Inge scheint etwas zu wissen und will Dr. Bold mehr hierüber verraten. Dazu kommt es allerdings nicht mehr.
